JPG to SVG converter

Trace a JPG or JPEG into real SVG paths without uploading the image. Clear logos, drawings, signatures, and flat graphics work best.

JPEG compression can leave blocky edges and color noise. The tracer follows those pixels, so inspect the preview before downloading.

Local conversion

Your JPG stays in the browser and is not sent to a conversion server.

Vector paths

The SVG contains traced paths instead of a JPG embedded inside SVG markup.

Quality preview

Compare the original JPEG and traced SVG before saving the result.

Honest limits

Compression noise, white backgrounds, text, shadows, and photos may need cleanup.

A JPG to SVG conversion is image tracing, not a lossless file change. The tool analyzes the JPG pixels and redraws color regions as vector paths. Simple artwork can produce a useful editable SVG. Detailed photos, lettering, shadows, and compression artifacts usually need more cleanup.

What happens when you convert JPG to SVG?

JPG stores a grid of compressed pixels. SVG stores geometric shapes. The converter finds visible edges and color regions, then creates paths that approximate them. The downloaded file contains vector markup and does not hide the original JPEG inside an SVG wrapper.

The new paths scale without becoming pixelated, but that does not restore detail already lost in the JPG. Blurred corners, ringing around text, and small blocks of color can become extra paths in the SVG.

Which JPG files trace well?

Logos, signatures, scanned line drawings, icons, clip art, and graphics with a small number of colors are the strongest candidates. Use the largest and cleanest JPG available. If you also have a PNG version, the PNG to SVG converter may preserve cleaner edges and transparency because PNG does not use lossy JPEG compression.

Why does my JPG create too many SVG paths?

JPEG compression changes pixels around edges, especially near text and high-contrast shapes. A tracer may treat those small variations as separate regions. Try Logo and icon mode for flat artwork, Line art for dark drawings on a light background, or Photo mode when a simplified illustration is acceptable.

Can JPG to SVG remove a white background?

JPG has no transparent pixels, so a white background is part of the image and may become a traced shape. For a transparent result, remove the background before tracing or use a transparent PNG source. Before deleting a white path, check whether the artwork uses it for smaller white details.

How to get a cleaner result

  1. Start with the highest-resolution JPG you have, but keep it under the tool limit.
  2. Crop unused background and reduce obvious compression noise before tracing.
  3. Try the mode that matches the artwork instead of assuming Photo mode is always better.
  4. Compare both previews and check whether text, corners, and small gaps changed.
  5. Inspect the SVG paths and clean the markup before using the file in a site or app.

Common questions

Can I convert JPG to SVG without uploading it?

Yes. The browser decodes and traces the JPG locally. The image is not sent to a conversion server.

Does JPG to SVG create real vector paths?

Yes. The result contains SVG path elements rather than an embedded JPG. The paths approximate the source pixels, so review the preview before using them.

Is JPG or PNG better for SVG tracing?

PNG is usually cleaner for logos, icons, and transparent artwork because it does not add lossy compression artifacts. JPG can still work well for clean scans, signatures, drawings, and simple graphics.

Can I convert a JPG photo to SVG?

Photo mode can create a simplified vector illustration, but it will not reproduce every photographic detail. A complex photo can also create a large SVG with many paths.

Why does the SVG have a white background?

JPG does not support transparency, so white background pixels are part of the image and may become a traced path. Remove the background before tracing when you need transparent SVG output.

Will converting JPG to SVG improve a blurry logo?

Tracing can create scalable edges, but it cannot recover exact geometry or lettering that the JPG no longer contains. A clean original vector or larger source image is better when available.
